Fraser leading

The Merchiston cross-country team had a busy week with four major events all over Edinburgh and surrounding areas. The week started with the Fettes Relays on Tuesday 2 March and Merchiston performed very well, winning the Open Boys event. Fraser S set the fastest lap time of the day, for the second year in a row. In the U15 boys' event George H also set the fastest lap time of the age group and our boys did well to finish in second place.
The following day a group of our youngest runners set off for The Compass invitational races in Haddington. In the U10 event, Rufus, Tom and Hamish ran superbly to finish in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places respectively. The good results earned us 1st place in the team event and in the U11 event our team performed well to get 3rd place overall.
On Thursday our team set out to Strathallan. All the boys races were run together and this meant some of our U13s had the opportunity to run against some of our U 19s. In what can only be described as an excellent day for our individual runners, we managed to win each of the four age groups. The under 13 and under 15 boys also managed to secure 1st place in the team result for their events.
The busy week of running concluded with the Scottish Prep Schools cross-country at John Muir Country Park in Dunbar.  Competing in the U12 and U14 races we managed to place 3rd and 2nd respectively in the team events for these age groups. Individually, Benn M ran a superb race in the under 14 boys event to finish second, an excellent achievement considering he still has another year of competing in this age group.

cross country teamThis concludes the cross-country season for 2009-2010 and the success of our teams has been immense. The overall age group results during the week highlight the talent that we currently have right through the school and huge congratulations must go the team and boys.
