cookbookMerchiston's Head Chef, Charlie Afrin, would like to promote a wonderful new cookery book.  "The Caledonian Kitchen" is a collection of recipes from around Scotland to help raise funds for Action Duchenne, the UK charity working towards finding a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Recipes have been submitted by Scots from all walks of life.  Celebrities, prominent figures, award winning chefs and supporters of Action Duchenne in Scotland, have come together to create this culinary masterpiece.

40 celebrities and prominent figures including, Sir Alex Ferguson, Kirsty Gallacher, Ian Rankin, Lorraine Kelly, Duncan Bannatyne and Kaye Adams and 34 award winning chefs from Scottish restaurants such as, Matthew Gray of Inverlochy   Castle, Shirley Spear of The Three Chimneys, Charles Lockley of Boath House, Paul Burns of The Airds Hotel and Tony Pierce of Knockinaam Lodge have all contributed to the book.  And finally, recipes from 50 Scots across the country who support the charity, including Merchiston's very own Head Chef.

There are 160 pages printed in full colour, the size is 246mm x 171mm with a Hardback cover. The book is of a professional quality and well worth the suggested voluntary donation of £10 to Action Duchenne.

The Headmaster is delighted to support this fundraising effort since, sadly, his sister died of Muscular Dystrophy at the age of 18 in 1982.

If you would like to purchase a copy please send a cheque for £10 made payable to Merchiston Castle School, along with your name and address for the attention of the Marketing Department, Merchiston Castle School, Colinton Road, Edinburgh, EH13 0PU.
