Last year, in conjunction with Aimhigher (part of the Higher Education Funding Council for England) and the World Memory Sports Council (WMSC), Inspire Education organised the first UK Schools Memory Championship, which was a great success.

The goal of the Memory Championships is to support schools embedding skills which have a direct impact on attainment levels across multiple subjects.  Feedback received after last year's event was that all students found the activities fun and easy to use, but most importantly, teachers noticed a marked improvement in the students' beliefs in their ability to learn, memorise and recall information.

memory challengeThere are thousands of students from schools all over the UK taking part in the UK Schools Memory Championships 2009.  On Monday 9 March eight times World Memory Champion, Dominic O’Brien, visited Merchiston to deliver a memory training session to a group of thirty pupils.  Another presenter on behalf of the Memory Championships will return to the school in 6-8 weeks to run the competition part of the training and the top scoring students will be invited along to the National Final which is being held in Northampton on the 7th July 2009.

This is the first time the Memory Championships have visited a school in Scotland and hopefully the boys will do well in the next part of the competition and go on to the National Final.
