junior musiciansThere is a very vibrant Music Department. Over 50 sing in the 140-strong School Choral Society, which performs a major choral work every March at an outside venue. The 80-strong Chapel Choir involves 30 Pringle boys, who form the treble section of the Choir. It sings at School Chapel Services, gives frequent performances both in Edinburgh and further a field, and undertakes foreign tours. Recent such ventures took the boys to central Spain in 2000, Italy in 2003 and Southern France in 2006. Our Junior Instrumentalists are given the opportunity to play in junior groups when they reach an appropriate standard and all boys in J4, J5 and First Form sing in the Junior Choir. There is also a Junior Pipe Band and Drumming Group.

Class Music

Class musical activities incorporate the key skills of performing, inventing and listening. A variety of classroom instruments, and where appropriate pupils' own instruments, are used in both performing and inventing activities, which are often based on listening to a range of musical styles, predominantly western, but also including music from other cultures. Computer-based music technology is employed for some activities in the Third Form.

Instrumental tuition

Instrumental tuition is available to Pringle boys on a wide range of instruments, and members of the Music Department are happy to advise parents about the choice of instrument at any time. The music staff ensure that each boy is given adequate opportunity to practise and draw up practice timetables.
