Parents' Forum

It may help you if I remind all parents and friends of the purpose of this Forum: it is to provide a positive and constructive channel of communication for all parents in the Merchiston community.  Members of the Forum meet with selected members of staff and with me in order to raise issues of a general nature concerning the School, and to make sure that the voice of the parental body is heard.  The Forum is not intended to replace our policy of the door being open at all times to any parent who wishes to discuss individual points with me, or indeed with any other member of staff at School.  Rather, we see the Forum as an opportunity for two-way communication on the broader issues, which will help to shape the future development of Merchiston.   There are three meetings of the Forum per annum and the minutes are always published in the end of term mailing.

Parents should refer to the calendar for the names and contact details of year group representatives, and you should get in touch with a representative of your son’s year group if you wish a general point to be raised at a Forum Meeting.  It is also important to note that Pringle has its own Parents’ Forum.  Morover, we have significant pupil body forums, including House Councils, the Students’ Forum, the International Students’ Forum, the Food Committee etc.

My thanks go to all the members of the Parents’ Forum, and especially to Lord Hodge, one of the Governors, who co-chairs the termly meeting with me.  Our Upper Sixth representatives, Mary Fairweather (mother of Struan, Captain of Pringle), Seonaid Mustard (mother of Bruce, Captain of School) and Nicki Quayle (mother of Douglas, Head of Pringle J4-Second Forms) will be stepping down from the Forum at the end of term and I am most grateful to them for their many years of service to the School community.
