Marketing & Admissions

It is a paradox that the School is a charity and at the same time an educational business.  Our numbers look extremely promising for September and it is likely that we will have between 440 and 450 pupils on the School roll.  As I write, we have 82 pupils joining us in the Autumn Term.  There have been several marketing events this term, including our Information Morning and Experience Pringle.  We pride ourselves on ensuring that our website is always up to date – this is all about the boys, the staff and you, the parents, and please remember that we try to keep you informed about ongoing issues and correspondence via parentnet, as an alternative to your receiving the usual Merchiston ‘brick’!  I am delighted with the work of the marketing and admissions staff, and I would like to thank all those whose efforts reap such dividends: Director of Admissions Anne Rickard, Admissions Assistant Sarah Compton-Dando, Director of Marketing Gayle Cordiner, Marketing Assistant Carole Burnett, Deputy Head Fergus West, Head of Pringle Peter Hall, my wife, Barbara, my PA, Sharon Dow, and Assistant Secretary Theresa Archibald.  The Merchiston/St George’s/Tennis Scotland Tennis Academy continues to flourish and our Head of Physical Education, Richard Charman, and Tennis Coach Marcel du Coudray, continue to run this area.  Equally, thank you to all the staff and the pupils who have been involved with tours and tasters for prospective parents and pupils respectively, and I am particularly grateful to those of you who, as parents, have recommended Merchiston to prospective parents.  As you know, word of mouth is the best recommendation of all!
