Chapel & Spirituality

This term has seen a number of opportunities for the pupils to reflect and seek spiritual nourishment.  This year, 10 young men went forward for Confirmation, the largest number for some years, and in a departure from our normal practice, they were confirmed in our local churches.  Kerr Aitken, Alex Morris, Oliver Murray and Tom Wiseman were confirmed into the Church of Scotland at Colinton Parish Church by the Rev’d Dr George White BD, BSc; Kit Alexander, Jack Fotheringham, Nicholas McCaul, Claude Millée, Richard Roeser and Philip Walton were confirmed into the Anglican Communion at St Cuthbert’s Episcopal Church by the Bishop of Edinburgh, the Rt Rev’d Brian A Smith MA, BA.  Thereafter, we had a Whole School Celebration of Confirmation.  Services this term have been conducted by the Chaplaincy Team, Ian Mitchell (a member of our Physics Department), John Purves and Edwin Buckler (who spoke about the untouchables in India), and we had a Review of the Year by the Chaplaincy Team.  The Pringle Service was inspiring in that the boys spoke and lead with real clarity and such obvious enthusiasm and enjoyment.  Equally, a Service was led by the senior prefects.  The End of Term Service, including First Prizegiving, is always an important event, and on this occasion a Common Room leaver, Robin Macpherson, spoke – as it happens, Robin is the son of our former Chaplain, Allan Macpherson.  The annual Pringle World Issues Week is also so important in raising eyes above the parapet.  As ever, we continue to support a wide range of charities and deserving causes through our Sunday and other collections.
