The Tour consisted of six concerts, four around Owen Sound and two around Toronto.  On Monday 30 June we performed at the Che-Cheauman Terminal at Tobermory, in front of passengers waiting to board the ferry to take them across Lake Huron.

Our next performance was at the Owen Sound City Hall, in front of the Mayor and a large group of Owen Sound’s Canada Day revellers.  The Close Harmony Group performed the Canadian national anthem, ‘Oh Canada’, much to the enjoyment of the crowd.  The second performance of the day was in the evening at the Kelso Park Amphitheatre, to a much larger group of spectators.  With “Oh Canada” once again going down a storm, and the Pipe Band performing alongside the Owen Sound Pipes and Drums, it was another successful concert.

The fifth concert of the tour took place after our move to Toronto, at the Castleview Residential Centre. The final Concert of the tour, and the final Merchiston Concert for the leaving Upper Sixth and a few others, took place at the Simcoe Park Band Shell at Niagara on the Lake, en route to see the Niagara Falls.  The Pipe Band drew the crowds and the Close Harmony Group wooed them with talent.

The excursions on the tour, were most enjoyable and wide-ranging.  The first of these was the Great Blue Heron Glass Bottom boat trip on Lake Huron from Tobermory.  The Canada  Day celebrations at Kelso Park in Owen Sound were also most enjoyable.  There were a number of stands selling food, drinks and patriotic souvenirs, but most of the group went swimming.  After the second concert of the day we were treated to a fireworks display that lasted thirty minutes.  The next day, on our way to Toronto, we stopped off at the open-air museum, St Marie among the Hurons Indian Village.  It was most enlightening and brought into focus the life of the “first peoples” and Indians.  On the next day we were treated to a guided tour of Toronto, which helped us gain our bearings and gave us the main highlights of the city.  In the evening we went up the stunning CN Tower, the second tallest free-standing building in the world.

The Niagara Falls provided another highlight for many, and the Maid of the Mist boat trip brought this natural phenomenon into prospective.
