The School took part in the Scottish Schools Relay Championships 2009 on Saturday 6 June. This is the first time since 1993 that Merchiston has won two relays at the Championships, and these teams have worked really hard this term in good and bad weather and thoroughly deserve their success.
Results were:
Over 17: Straight Final. The team ran well and finished 4th in a very respectable time.
Under 17: Squad of Claude, Jonathan, Jay, Tom and Monty: Qualified for the final with a time of 46.19s which proved to be the fastest qualifying time. They ran superbly in the Final to dominate from start to finish. Monty ran the last leg and brought the team home in a season’s best time of 45.73s to earn a well deserved Gold Medal and pick up the RB Forman Cup.
Under 15: Squad of James, Ben, Matthew and Scott: The team qualified for the final with a solid run and a time of 49.36. Their closest rivals were George Watson’s College who had beaten them in the inter school match earlier in the term. The Final was a fantastic demonstration of baton change over as they also dominated from start to finish winning Gold in a time of 48.86s another season’s best.
