Sunday 20 September - Evening Chapel
The service was led by Alex Anderson, and took the form of a traditional Eucharist. All the boarders attended the first part of the service, the Liturgy of the Word, with those who wished staying on for the communion element.

Sunday 13 September - Evening Chapel

The speaker was Andrew Bennett, the youth worker from St Mungo's Episcopal Church in Balerno. His theme was the encouragement that God wishes to give us as our heavenly father, and he used two very moving clips, one of Dick Hoyt and his son Rick, world-renowned charity runners, and the other of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, featuring Derek Redmond being helped across the finishing line by his father after snapping his hamstring. Stephen Dennis took charge of the choir for the first time and taught us a brand new hymn 'All my days' which the boys sang very well.

Sunday 6 September - Whole School Start of Year service

The address entitled 'Who do you think you are' was given by the leader of the chaplaincy team, Mr Nick Blair. It was an entertaining and thought-provoking address on the subject of identity. From the complex diversity that makes up an individual's identity, Mr Blair highlighted three strands which might be applicable to the congregation; one a statement of fact, 'You are a Merchistonian', one a statement of faith, 'You are a child of God', and one a challenge, 'You are a servant'. Marco W gave an excellent performance on the violin from a Bach Partita, and the readings were given by our vice-captain of School and Paul, a new entrant into the Sixth Form from Germany.
