The Tennis Academy has been running for 8 months now, and in that time there have been many individual and team successes. Last weekend two of the senior boys, Stewart Crerar and James McKie were involved in the Scottish Mens Open, and were drawn against each other! It was a match of 3 parts, on the centre court at Craiglockhart. Stewart dominated the first set with solid heavily hit groundstrokes, while James struggled to find any rhythm, with Stewart winning the set 6-2. This pattern continued until Stewart was 4-2 up in the second set. At this point the tone of the match changed and both boys struggled to find rhythm and made a lot of unforced errors. James managed to control his frustration through this period, and this proved to be the difference as he closed out the set 7-5. The third set turned out differently to the first two as James now had the momentum and carried it through to win 6-2, showing good resilience in sticking to his game plan. In the next round James then went out to England's Dan Evans. James was then featured in this week's Times Educational Supplement, where he describes his life as part of the Tennis Academy.
