On Wednesday 16th April, fresh from our Easter holidays, Peter Legget, Alex Morris, Alex Copp, Hector Pollock Fraser, and Charles Murray from Shell Form went to the Stock Market Challenge, which was held at Dynamic Earth, next to the Scottish Parliament.
There we competed against teams from 24 other schools and the JP Morgan bank, buying and selling virtual stocks and shares, with the aim to make as much profit as possible. During the day we had to analyse news bulletins about the different companies and revise our strategy accordingly. With almost no prior knowledge of the stock market, we followed the organisers’ advice and spent all our starting money at once. We quickly got into the rhythm of the game, and were soon all out of our seats, buying and selling shares.

At the end of the day we were the team that had made the most money, turning our starting fund of £15,000 into £175,000. We even beat the team of experts from JP Morgan. We were declared the Stock Market Champions, walking away with the Stock Market Challenge Trophy, and £500 for the school.
