A Rugby Supporter’s Lunch was held on February 2nd 2008. Here, organiser David Robertson gives an account of the event:
“Despite heavy snow across much of northern Britain, on the first Saturday in February, a Rugby Supporters Lunch took place at The Northumberland Golf Club just outside Newcastle upon Tyne. Certainly the foul weather did mean that some were unable to attend but thirty parents, friends and Merchistonians, and their wives, enjoyed a splendid lunch provided by the Golf Club before the matches. Particularly welcome were the President of the Merchistonian Club Steve Abram and his wife Trish who motored all way from Glasgow to be present. Supporters also came from as far as Edinburgh to the north and Pickering, in Yorkshire, to the south. The event proved to be a most successful and congenial social gathering, in an excellent venue and will, no doubt, be the first of may more in future years.”
We would like to extend a special thanks to David for his hard work in organising the lunch, and encouraging so many Merchistonians to attend.
