Iain ChalmersIain Chalmers is planning to undertake an ultra-marathon as part of the 65th anniversary celebrations of D-Day. The plan is to run a mere 65 miles to arrive a Pegasus Bridge at 00:16, the same time as the original assault party though 65 years later. The money raised will go towards a number of charities relevant to British Armed Forces.  You can sponsor Iain using the following link www.justgiving.com/iaindschalmers

Project 65 has been set up to raise money for a variety of charities: Royal British Legion, BLESMA, Army Benevolent Fund, RAF Benevolent Fund and St Dustans. All are charities involved in the care of wounded ex-servicemen. The aim, in the 65th anniversary year of  D-Day, is to raise £500,000 for these charities and recreate the assault on Pegasus Bridge at 00:16 hours on D Day. To do this the runners will complete a 65 mile ultra-marathon from the origional staring point at Tarrant Rushton airfield to Pegasus Bridge near Caen France. The only possible opportunity for rest will be on the ferry from Portsmouth to France. The final 3 mile run will be at night and each runner will bear the name of a member of the origional assault party, arriving at the bridge at the exact hour of the initial landing. The only +ve note for such a long run is that the runners will at least arrive to some friendly faces not potential enemy fire! More details can be found on the website www.project65.net
