Philip Rossiter (Director of Music )

Philip directs all the choral groups, and is responsible for the general running of all aspects of the department. He is also Senior Housemaster, and in charge of Chalmers West.

Ruth Cohen

Ruth teaches class music in the middle and junior sections of the school. She has particular interests in jazz, and frequently performs on clarinet and saxophone which she also teaches. She is a keen singer.

Gordon Campbell (Head of Piping)

Gordon gained an MA at Aberdeen University, and Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Administration at Galashiels Scottish College of Textiles. Gordon has instructed the Army Cadet Force Pipes and Drums Cadre since its inception in 1995. Prior to his full-time appointment to Merchiston in 2005, he taught here and in several other Scottish Schools as a visiting instructor.
