Travel the World through Books
The annual Book Passport Scheme started in the Spawforth Library on 7th May 2007. So far, 112 boys are taking part. Already 219 journeys have been undertaken.
- Nicholas S who travelled from Edinburgh to Zaragoza, Spain completed the first trip. He was closely followed by Horace L and Benny K who travelled to Athens and Cairo.
- The most popular destination, so far, is Cairo. Other well-visited destinations are Madrid, Rome and Sydney.
- The fastest journey, so far, was made by Cameron N who travelled from Turkey to Abu Dhabi within a day. Cameron was the first 1st Form boy to complete a journey.
- Lewis M was the first in the 2nd Form to complete a journey by travelling to Pompeii in Italy.
- Everyone starts their travels from Edinburgh and this year there are prizes to be won at different stages. A plane, on completion of your first trip, a bookmark, after your second trip and a compass when you visit 3 different continents.
- There are also the major prizes at three secret locations.
- Angus P, so far, has undertaken the most remote journey. He is travelling to Macquire Island, south of Australia.
- Along the way a lot of books are being read and travel information gathered.
